File Description:With the re-birth of the 'control synth' the next logical step is the creation of the 'control sampler'. The new A3000 from Yamaha represents an exciting new concept in sampling technology. The A3000 boasts many new features and facilities which will allow the user to explore new avenues in sampled based music.
The basic A3000 is 64 note polyphonic and is shipped with 2 Meg of on board RAM. This RAM is user expandable with 4x72 pin SIMMS to a 'competition smashing' total of 128 Meg.
Yamaha have carved a reputation for their signal processing power within musical instruments and the A3000 is no exception. It benefits from the latest in DSP technology from Yamaha. As standard the A3000 has 3 independent effects blocks for sample processing. These processors not only contain traditional reverb, chorus and delay type effects but special, sample specific, effects such as realtime time stretch and Lo-Fi EQ curves. These effects can also be accessed in realtime and applied to any audio input - i.e. they do not have to be limited to sampled sounds only, the A3000 can act as a stand alone effects processor too.
A powerful EQ section provides a 4 band EQ system along with a parametric EQ which can be applied to each sample. There is no other sampler currently on the market which can offer this level of DSP as standard.
The 'control sampler' aspect has been given great consideration. The front panel contains 5 multi functional knobs for realtime control and fast editing. 4 of the 5 knobs are fully user assignable so can be used to control any parameters within the A3000 or, as they can also transmit MIDI controller data, any other MIDI device.
In this era of multi platform projects file compatibility can often become a problem for the artist. To alleviate this the A3000 can read Akai and Emu samples and the AIFF and WAV computer formats. These can either be loaded via the DD/HD disk drive mounted on the front panel or via SCSI. Other useful features include an Auto Sequential recording mode where the A3000 can continuously create isolated samples from an audio phrase sample CD plus a facility to control an external CD ROM from the A3000 front panel.
