MOLMOL is a molecular graphics program for display, analysis, and manipulation of three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, with special emphasis on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) solution structures of proteins and nucleic acids. MOLMOL has a graphical user interface with menus, dialog boxes and on-line help. The display possibilities include conventional presentations, as well as novel schematic drawings, with the option of displaying different presentations in one view. The covalent molecular structures can be modified by addition or removal of individual atoms and bonds; the three-dimensional structure can be manipulated by interactive rotation about individual dihedral angles. Special efforts were made to allow for appropriate display and analysis of sets of (typically 20-40) conformers that are conventionally used to represent the result of a NMR structure determination, using functions for superimposing sets of conformers, calculation of root mean square distance (RMSD) values, identification of hydrogen bonds, checking and displaying violations of NMR constraints, and identification and listing of short distances between pairs of hydrogen atoms.

Ventura

Ventura Publisher was the first popular desktop publishing package for IBM PC compatible computers running DOS. The software was originally developed by Ventura Software, a small company founded by John Meyer (who developed it when he was at Xerox PARC), Don Heiskel and Lee Jay Lorenzen. It ran under an included run-time copy of Digital Research, Inc.'s Graphical Environment Manager (GEM) Desktop. The first version was released in 1986.

Ventura was distributed by several companies, but after a while Xerox became the only distributor and in 1989 they even bought the source code. Ventura Software Inc., an affiliated company of Xerox, was formed and version 3.0 Gold was published in 1990. Besides DOS/GEM it was also available for Win16, Mac and OS/2. Version 4.0 was released in 1991. The last version released by Ventura Software Inc. was 4.1.1 in 1993.

Microsoft System Management Server

System Center Configuration Manager, formerly Systems Management Server (SMS), is a systems management software product by Microsoft for managing large groups of Windows-based computer systems. Configuration Manager provides remote control, patch management, software distribution, operating system deployment, and hardware and software inventory.

There have been three major iterations of SMS. The 1.x versions of the product defined the scope of control of the management server (the site) in terms of the NT domain that was being managed. Since the 2.x versions, that site paradigm has switched to a group of subnets that will be managed together. Since SMS 2003, the site could also be defined as one or more Active Directory sites.

The major difference between the 2.x product and SMS 2003 is the introduction of the Advanced Client. The Advanced Client communicates with a more scalable management infrastructure, namely the Management Point. A Management Point (MP) can manage up to twenty five thousand Advanced Clients.

The Advanced Client was introduced to provide a solution to the problem that a managed laptop might connect to a corporate network from multiple different locations and should not always download content from the same place within the enterprise (though it should always receive policy from its own site). When an Advanced Client is within another location (SMS Site), it may use a local distribution point to download or run a program which can conserve bandwidth across a WAN.

Microsoft announced the next generation of the product, "V4" (formally named System Center Configuration Manager 2007) at the Microsoft Management Summit in April 2005. The product was released to manufacturing in August of 2007 and was available for general release in November of 2007. A free evaluation edition of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 is available on the Microsoft download center.
