The file is also used by Microsoft Windows CE Services, more specific by Microsoft ActiveSync when performing file conversions between Pocket PC formats (PWI) and Windows formats (RTF). In this context, it is created by a certain function in ceutil.dll before the conversion actually takes place. It is then mapped as a memory mapped file and further accessed as a memory area by all Pocket PC to RTF conversion DLLs. It is used as a global storage pool to exchange information between various ActiveSync modules. Deleting it does no harm. It will be created automatically, until next conversion or synchronization with Pocket PC. Unfortunately Microsoft didn't include a delete routine in their clean-up code. |

Name: | MMM |
File Type: | Adobe Type Manager multiple-master font metrics |
Popularity: | 4 |
Category: | Font file |
File Description: | A multiple master font is a (PostScript Type1) font which contains, in one font description several extreme styles of a font family and code for interpolating between them to produce intermediate designs. Apple has a similar concept for TrueType -- The only name I've seen given to this is "Apple Distortable Font" -- I call both multiple master.
A multiple master font has several axes along which variation may occur. For example a font might allow variation along the Weight axis (everything from Thin to Black), along the Width axis (Condensed to Extended) and along the Optical Size axis (from 6pt to 72pt). The Type1 spec requires that there be a design for every extreme combination along each axis. |
