AOL has a long history on the internet, being one of the first companies to really get people online. Throughout its lifetime, it has been involved with a number of high profile acquisitions, perhaps the largest of which was the 1999 acquisition of the Netscape Communications Corporation. Netscape was known to many as the thought leader in web browsing, and had developed a number of complementary pieces of software that allowed for a rich suite of internet tools.

At the time of the acquisition, the Netscape team had begun working on converting their flagship product - the Netscape Communicator web suite - into open source software, under a new name: Mozilla. AOL played a significant role in the launch of the Netscape 6 browser, the first Mozilla-based, Netscape-branded browser that was released in 2000 and continued to solely fund the development and marketing efforts of Netscape-branded browsers. In 2003, an independent foundation was created to support the continued development of the open source web suite. AOL was a major source of support for the Mozilla Foundation and the company continued to develop versions of the Netscape browser based on the work of the foundation.

While internal groups within AOL have invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Recently, support for the Netscape browser has been limited to a handful of engineers tasked with creating a skinned version of Firefox with a few extensions.

AOL's focus on transitioning to an ad-supported web business leaves little room for the size of investment needed to get the Netscape browser to a point many of its fans expect it to be. Given AOL's current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it's the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.

In the last decade, the interest for the analysis of so called qualitative data material has grown considerably. An increasing number of researcher in an increasing number of disciplines have to analyse the answers of open, unstructured interviews, documents and reports, articles in newspapers, diaries and journals, and so on. But the qualitative, interpretative analysis is not restricted to written material, it also extends to objects like paintings, pictures and video fragments. Kwalitan is a program that supports the researcher in doing this kind of analysis. It takes care of an efficient storage of the data and offers several features to analyse the qualitative material, like coding, retrieving, categorisation of codes, overviews of codes or words in the text, keywords in context and writing memos. With the help of Kwalitan you can analyse text, pictures, audio fragments and video fragments.

Keyhole Markup Language file. The file format used by Google-Earth, to allow developers to define custom layers which can be displayed by Google-Earth. The file contains Keyhole Markup Language (kml), which is defines geographic modelling features such as points, lines, images and polygons.

KML, or Keyhole Markup Language, is an XML grammar and file format for modeling and storing geographic features such as points, lines, images, and polygons for display in Google Earth . This document describes KML version 2.0 for Google Earth version 3.0 and later. (Earlier versions of KML can be read into Google Earth and saved out as KML version 2.0.)

You can use KML 2.0 to:

• Specify icons and labels to identify locations on the planet surface
• Create different camera positions to define unique views
• Use image overlays which are attached to the ground or screen

A KML file is processed by Google Earth in a similar way that HTML and XML files are processed by web browsers. Like HTML, KML has a tag-based structure with names and attributes used for specific display purposes. Thus, Google Earth acts as a browser of KML files.

The following list summarizes the latest features in KML version 2.0:

• A new object, , controls the behavior of network files fetched through network links.
• The default format for files written by Google Earth is KMZ. This is a compressed KML file that can be opened by any software that understands common ZIP file formats. The benefit of this is that images are self-contained in the file and do not need to be hosted on a network server, as with KML 1.0.
• The tag now supports a vast array of standard HTML features, such as anchors, images, rich text, and tables.
• The old tag has been replaced with a new tag.
• The syntax of the feature has been updated.
• Styles are now much more powerful. They consist of styles for each geometry currently supported by the client: , , , and .
• Lines can now be optionally tessellated over terrain.
• The tag has been deprecated in favor of using .
• Network links are now able to return the current view to the server, allowing the server to return location-specific KML files.
