Fix DVD Drive Not Reading Problem by Yourself

Bought some new DVDs and CDs but find the DVD drive not reading the disc anymore? Purchased a new DVD drive but after inserting it into the computer, it is not shown in device manager at all? Put the CD into the drive, it reads but then a window just pops up and says there is error in the drive? If you have any of above suffers and are ready to give up, please read this article. We will guide you how to fix DVD drive not reading problem by yourself.

 

First, find the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Many manufacturers will put the drivers for their products on their websites. Users can download the drivers free on such websites. After installing the drivers, the problem will be solved. If your DVD drive is contained in the computer or laptop when you bought it, you can go to the computer manufacturers’ website and find the pc model to get to the download page. If lucky enough, you will find the DVD driver there.

 

If not works, you will have to edit the registry to fix the error. Actually the windows system will contain a driver for your DVD/CD drive. But to make it function, you will have to edit the registry entry. Below is the method:

 

1. Tap Window key (flag key on the keyboard) and R key on the keyboard, at once.
2. You would see the Run window on the screen. Type Regedit in the open field and click OK.
3. Click plus sign (or arrow) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4. Click plus sign (or arrow) next to System
5. Click plus sign (or arrow) next to CurrentControlSet
6. Click plus sign (or arrow) next to Control
7. Click plus sign (or arrow) next to Class
8. In the left hand window pane click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} to select that key
9. In the right hand window pane select the UpperFilters registry key and press the delete key on the keyboard Confirm with an OK
10. In the right hand window pane select the LowerFilters registry key and press the delete key on the keyboard Confirm with an OK
11. Close the registry edit window.
12. Open the device manager window Tap (Window key (flag key on the keyboard) and R key on the keyboard, at once) Type in devmgmt.msc
13. Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives and right click on the device and select uninstall.
14. After uninstalling, plese click on the system icon on the top and select scan for new hardware changes. 

NOTE: Editing registry by yourself may cause mistake and serious injure to computer system. If you are not familiar with it, you’d better get a registry cleaner to help you. It is much more safer and will not cause harm to your system.
