For people who use laptop, the power icon is important when they are not connected with power supply. The battery will run out gradually and the power button can tell how much time is left so one can backup the work and things or plug in power line to continue. Sometimes, the power icon will disappear from the task bar if the system registry is corrupted or changed. To solve this issue,
First, try a system restore.
- Log on to Windows as an administrator.
- Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
- On the Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option, and then click Next.
- On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
- On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
- Log on to the computer as an Administrator. Then click OK on the System Restore Restoration Completepage.
Second, edit your registry by below instructions:

Click Start.
In the Start Search field, type regedit.exe and then press Enter.If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or clickAllow.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
- In the Details pane, click the IconStreams registry entry.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
- In the Details pane, click the PastIconsStream registry entry.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
- Exit Registry Editor.
- Restart the Explorer.exe process. To do these, follow these steps:
- Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
- On the Processes tab in Task Manager, click the explorer.exe process, and then clickEnd Process two times.
- On the File menu, click New Tasks (Run), type explorer, and then click OK.
- Exit Task Manager.
- Once Explorer.exe has restarted, right click on the clock and choose “Customize Notification Icons”.
- Ensure that Power is set to “Show icon and notifications”.
- Click on “Turn system icons on or off”
- Ensure that Power is set to “On”.
- Click on OK and close the Control Panel.
