How to Solve PctsSvc.exe – Application Error

 

PctsSvc.exe is a file supplied with PCTools Spyware Doctor software products. When active, pctsSvc.exe makes Internet connection to PCTools as part of its operation. User may block the pctsSvc.exe Internet access, for example via a firewall, with no apparent ill effects to PCTools Spyware Doctor, however, doing so may inhibit proper operation of Spyware Doctor and generate the error as below:

 

“pctsSvc.exe – Application Error
The exception unkown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b. “
Errors associated with this file may mean that initial installation of PCTools Spyware Doctor was improper, or that pctsSvc.exe has been corrupted, or that Spyware Doctor has been improperly uninstalled. 

 

To solve this error,

 

Step 1: Uninstall and resintall the Spyware Doctor.

This looks simple but is always the most effective way to resolve the issue. Since the file may be corrupted, a reinstallation will get all the files back. Just remember that you will need to uninstall the old version first. This can be done through control panel’s add and remove programmes. If you can’r remove the programme from control panel, you will have to get a professional uninstaller to remove it completely from your computer, otherwise you will not be able to reinstall the programme.

 

Step 2:  Run the programme in compability mode

This is rather a run around then a solution. But it sometimes fixes the problem when the file is not corrupted.

• Open Windows Explorer (Right Click on My Computer and select Open )
  Right Click on the C: Drive and select Search
  Enter pctsSvc.exe in the search field
• In the advanced section, make sure you select the following:
• # Search System Folders
• # Search Hidden Files and Folders
• # Search Subfolders
• When the search finds the file, Right Click on the file and select Properties
  Click on the Compatibility tab
  Under the Compatibility Mode section, place a check mark next to: Run this program in compatibility mode for
• From the drop down menu, select Windows 2000
  Click Apply and then OK 

 

Step 3: Clean registry errors

 PctsSvc.exe – Application Error can also be caused by registry errors. Virus and malware can corrupt the registry and cause numerous problems in your computer, including the application errors. It is urgent to have a registry cleaner to detect and fix these registry issues for you. Any delay will lead to unimaginable more serious issues.
