When you use IE 8, you may get an error as below:
Explorer.EXE – Unable To Locate Component
This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
From the error message, we can see that one file is missing from system that causes the IE problem to occur. To solve the problem, it is necessary to restore the file back to system. There is several ways to restore the iertutil.dll file.
Method 1: Download the file online from free dll websites.
There are many dll sites that offer free dll download. You will have to enter the dll name correctly; wrong dll being put into your system may cause serious problem. The default folder of the dll files is system32 folder in C:\windows. Download and save the Iertutil.dll to this folder. And next, register it:
- Start button
- Click run button, for vista and 7 users, just click the search box
- Type regsvr32 Iertutil.dll
- Press enter. You shall see an information of registering sucessfully.
- Reopen your IE 8 and test the issue. It shall do the trick.
Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall IE 8.
- With the error message displayed, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete together on your keyboard to start the Task Manager
- In the Task Manager, click New Task…, type the following text and click OK
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
The uninstall wizard for Internet Explorer 8 will start, just follow steps in the wizard
Note: You may see instances of the error message, just click OK and allow the uninstall to continue.
Once completed, the PC will restart. Internet Explorer will revert to a previous version - Click the link to download and install the standalone version of the Internet Explorer 8 installation package
Method 3: Download a dll fixer to fix the dll error
