How to Fix Sound Issue

 

Sound problem is quite common in windows system. It can occur when you are using Media player, internet explorer or other softwares that has the function of sound. Sometimes, the sound issue just occurs on specific software. However, it can mute all software at the same time as well.

 

When a sound issue occurs, we will need to check if all software with sound are not working, or just certain programme is muted. If some of the programmes still have sound, then it may be the setting of that problematic programme. In such case, open the setting of that programme, search and find sound option, see if you have turned off the audio function. If so, just enable it back. It shall do the trick.

 

For example, if the internet explorer is silent and not producing sound, you will need to check if the sound is disabled in internet option.

  • Open IE. Go to Tools> Internet Options.
  • Switch to the “Advanced” Tab.
  • Scroll down to the “Multimedia” sub-heading.
  • Make sure the box next to “Play sounds in web pages“ is checked.
  • Click “ok“. Restart Internet Explorer.
  • Test to see if sounds will now play.

 

If there is no sound anywhere on the computer, it may be more serious problems inside the system, for example, system files is corrupted or the sound driver is missing. Under this situation, you will need to :

 

First, do a system file check to make sure the system files are not corrupted.

  • Start button
  • Run button or search box
  • Type cmd and press enter
  • Type sfc /scannow
  • Press enter

 

Second, check device manager to see if sound driver is installed.

In many cases, sound problem is caused by missing sound driver. It may be mistakenly deleted from the system or damaged by virus. The solution is simple: Install the sound driver back. To get the sound driver back, you can either go to the sound card manufacturer’s website, search the correct model number and download; or install a driver updating tool to do this for you.

 

Third, Enable windows audio service.

  • 1) Click on Start and Run 
  • 2) Type services.msc and press enter
  • 3) Scroll down to Windows Audio in the right-hand column and double-click on it, 
  • 4) Make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic and click on the Start button under Service Status.

 

Fourth, Fix registry errors in the system
