Registry is a database of Microsoft Windows; it is used to store the set-up information of systems and applications. The registry had appeared as early as the Windows 3.0 launching OLE technology, and the following Windows NT was the first operating system which used registry widely from the system-level.
However, from the beginning of the Microsoft Windows95, Windows users began to often contact registry. In the following operating systems, registry continued to be used until now.
The registry is the data files designed for all 32-bit Windows NT and Windows95 hardware / drivers and 32-bit application. 16 bit driver cannot work in the Winnt, and all the devices are controlled through the registry. In the case of no registry, the operating system will not get the necessary information to run and control the affiliated equipments and applications or respond to user input correctly.
The registry files store all the setting in formations of the system. When a user is ready to run an application, the registry provides application information to the operating system, so that the application can be found, the location of the correct data file is specified, and other settings can be used.
