Windows Media Player is a free player introduced by Microsoft. It is an important component of Microsoft Windows which is completely free. Usually we call it WMP.

- You can update your Windows and your Windows Media Player will be updated at the same time.
- You can update the driver of your sound card if there is something wrong with it.
- You can use Device Manager to check the status of your sound device.
The way to check the status of your sound device:
1. Click on Start, right-click on Computer, and then click on the Manager.
2. Find the pane on the left and click on the Device Manager.
3. In the pane on the right, expand Sound, video and game controllers, you can find the name of your sound device.
4. If your sound device is listed but there is a red “X” on the icon, the device has been disabled. To enable the device, you can right-click on the icon, and then click Enable.
5. If your sound device isn’t listed, in the right pane, you can expand other devices. If you can find Multimedia Audio Controller in the list, right-click on the icon, and then click on Update Driver Software. Follow the on-screen instructions to find and install the driver.
6. If you can’t find and install the correct driver, you can go to the website of your computer manufacturer or the website of sound device manufacturer for further assistance.
7. If you’re trying to play a file on the Internet, try again later. The server might be temporarily unavailable or there might be a network issue.
