How to Regain Disk Space

Have you ever encountered a problem that you cannot do anything since your C drive is full even though you didn’t put anything on C drive? This problem is not strange any more. This is because the operation system save too many junk files that we do not need into C drive without permission of the user. To fix this problem and regain space in your disk, you need to clean up your computer.

Solution A:

Run the Disk Cleanup Option

Open My Computer

• 1. Right click on the hard drive that you wish to regain hard drive space. (For example, right-click on the C: drive.)
• 2. Click Properties.
• 3. Within the General tab, click the “Disk Cleanup” button located next to the pie chart.
• 4. Windows will scan the computer for all files available to clean up.
• 5. Once in the Disk Cleanup window check each of the boxes that are taking disk space.
• 6. Click on Ok and then Yes if you wish to proceed.

Uninstall old programs no longer used

• 1. Click on start
  2. Click on control panel
  

  3. Click on “add or remove”
  

  4. You will find many program installed your computer on the list.
  

  5. Try to find the programs you won’t use recently.
  

  6. Click on it and click on remove. That program will be gone from your computer then.

Reduce the size of your Recycle Bin.

• 1. Right click on the Recycle Bin icon on the Windows Desktop.
  2. Click on Properties.
  

  3. Left click on Global. You should see a slider that is set to 10%. Using the mouse, slide the pointer to 1-2%. This will reduce the amount of space that your hard drive reserves for the Recycle Bin.
  

  4. Click OK.
  

  5. This space will be recovered the next time that you defragment your hard drive.
