If you want to keep your accounts safe, remember to set different passwords for each account. You can use a paper to write down your passwords and save it in a safe place in your house. Your house is much more safer than internet.

Tips to Fix Windows Update Error 0×80070490

When you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update Center to install updates for your system, you may get an error code 0×80070490 which results in update failure. This error is commonly seen when the service packages of windows system are being installed, for example, windows 7 sp1 and windows vista sp1.

 

The cause of this error is  that the system is missing some important components for Windows update. To solve this, you have to repair the system. Instructions are given below:

 

For Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000

Use the System File Checker to verify that the correct versions of the system files are present. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Copy and then paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
    cmd
  3. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER. Note If you are prompted for your Windows XP CD, insert the CD into the CD drive.
  4. After the System File Checker has finished, try to install updates again.

 
For Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008
Performe a repair installation to restore the current Windows installation to the version of the installation DVD. 

  1. Close all the running applications .
  2. Insert the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD in the computer’s DVD drive.
  3. In the Setup window, click Install Now. 
  4. Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
  5. Type the CD key if you are prompted to do this.
  6. Select the operating system in “Install Windows” page you want to Upgrade or Inplace.
  7. Click Yes to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
  8. On the Which type of installation do you want? screen, click Upgrade.
  9. When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then try to install the updates.

System Restore could not access a file.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0×80070005)

System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer’s files and settings were not changed.

 

 Please follow below instructions to fix it:

 

First, disable your antivirus and firewall sofftware.

Anvirus software is always the first to be blamed for failed system restore. It does protect the computer from virus and malware, but it also blocks any action that wants to replace system files. Such action is always what virus wants to do. Unfortunately, to do a system restore, the computer has to replace all current system files with old versions so to get the system back to previous state. So, make sure to turn off your antivirus and firewall before you do that.

 

Second, run a system file check to see if any file is missing.

  • How to run sfc by administrator on windows 7 /vista:
    Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.
    Right click the Command Prompt item and select the ‘Run As Administrator’ option.
    Click Continue on the UAC prompt.
    In the command prompt window, type the following command.
    SFC /SCANNOW
    Press ENTER.
    (Make sure the command is entered exactly as shown, including the space)
    This will take a few minutes to run, try not to use the computer while it is running.
    After this is finished, exit any running programs and reboot the computer.

      press Win+R button on your keyboard
      type cmd press enter
      type SFC /SCANNOW
      Press ENTER.

      This will take a few minutes to run; try not to use the computer while it is running.

Third, get a registry cleaner to clean the registry errors. A good registry cleaner will help you to clean registry, fix errors and improve system performance. How To Keep Hard Disk Healthy

Hard disk is the basic of the a computer system. It is where all the information are written into and read from. Disk Cleanup tool

Using this tool you can empty your Recycle Bin and remove the following items from your system

  • Temporary Internet Files
  • Downloaded Program Files, such as downloaded ActiveX Controls and Java Applets
  • Temporary Windows Files
  • Unwanted Windows Components
  • Unwanted Installed Programs

To start the Disk Cleanup utility, open the Start menu, point to All Programs, and then point to Accessories. Next, point to System Tools, and then select the Disk Cleanup command.

 

Disk defragmenter

Over time, the files that belongs to specific programs may be stored all over the hard disk where the space is available. This tool will help you to tidy up the files and keep them within the correct folder to save time for the system to find and read the files.

To run the Disk Defragmenter on your hard disk, open the Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter command. In the Disk Defragmenter window that opens, select the volume you want to defrag and then select the Defragment button.

 

Apart from above two tools, you can also refer to third party program to clean up your disk and keep it healthy. A registry cleaner and system optimizer will not only do above for you, but also clean regularly and automatically, and scan your registry errors and other junk files to free up space in your hard disk.
